You Are Losing Business Over Google’s Update
Now that we’ve got your attention, let’s talk about a serious matter. Protecting your website is imperative, and starting this October, Google will be punishing websites that don’t offer security from hackers trying to steal personal information. Google’s web browser, Chrome (which is used by 60% of the browser desktop market), will display a “NOT SECURE” warning when visiting sites that ignore SSL (website secured browsing) that may as well say “WE DON’T WANT YOU AS OUR CUSTOMER”. Fear not! Blue Laser Design has your back.
What the heck is SSL?
Great question! SSL stands for “Secure Sockets Layer”, which is a fancy way of saying that all the data (credit card numbers, social security numbers etc.) that is passed between your website and your visitors computer is safe from unwanted eyes. Even something as simple as a general “contact us” form requires SSL. Not only does SSL keep information private between you and your customers, but it also helps your search rankings. Google has given priority to websites with SSL for years, boosting them ahead in rankings over sites without security. What’s not to love?
How does this affect my business?
Whether you are a lawyer, an ecommerce website or a commercial painter, you likely have a form on your website to drive leads (if you don’t, that’s another conversation we need to have). With this update, potential leads will be less willing to give you even the most basic contact information if they can’t trust your website. Imagine you are checking out at the grocery store and the cashier says, “I can’t guarantee that our credit card machine is 100% secure”. Would you still make the purchase? Or would you walk out and leave tire marks in the parking lot?
How do I secure my website?
Does this update sound confusing? That’s where we step in. Converting your site to SSL can be a quick and painless change if you have the right partner. What if my rankings plummet? What if I accidentally block certain pages on my website? Rest easy. Blue Laser Design has developed an efficient and effective solution to ensure your website has no hiccups come October.
